Update: American actor James Tolkan—who appeared in the films *Back to the Future* (1985–89), *Top Gun* (1986), and *Masters of the Universe* (1987)—has sadly passed away at the age of 94. He was best known for his role as Mr. Strickland in the *Back to the Future* franchise—a character who consistently took a harsh stance against “slackers”—as well as for playing Tom “Stinger” Jardian, Tom Cruise’s stern commanding officer in the film *Top Gun*. May James Tolkan rest in peace. ♥️
